    - Repair the roof and eves

    - Replace broken glass panes

    - Repair the main floor flooring and supports

    - New interior and exterior paint

    - Update the accessibility around the building

Alaska Railroad Museum & Nenana Depot

The Alaska Railroad Museum & Nenana Depot is located at 900 A ST. Nenana, AK 99760. This museum is operated by the Friends of the Tanana Valley Railroad with a working relationship with the City of Nenana to lease the building.

The museum will mainly focus on the history of the Alaska Railroad, how it grew through the years, and supported many small communities along the rail belt and beyond. The Depot is currently a flag stop for the Alaska Railroad Passenger Trains, this means the train does not regularly stop but can be requested to stop if proper notice is given.

The Museum and Bookstore will open Friday, June 11, 2021 for the 2021 summer season through September 15, 2021. The museum will be open daily from 9am - 6pm, with a break for lunch at 1pm - 2pm. Visitors are welcome to join us in waving hello to the passing trains at 10:00a and 6:00p, we just ask that you do so from a safe distance or inside the depot. Below is the weekly 2021 schedule.

Interested in Working with Us?

The Alaska Railroad Museum & Nenana Depot is a primarily volunteer environment. Our volunteers are the foundation of the organization and accomplish much of the work needed. If you are interested in volunteering at the Depot please reach out or come on by and see the job board of our ongoing projects - we have everything from model railroading, painting, woodworking, gardening, office work, repair work, and much more!

Because we realize the Depot has to be open for train service and visitors, not all the time are our volunteers able to staff the museum. To fill these vacancies we do have a staff of paid docents who welcome guests and take care of day-to-day operations of the museum and bookstore. If you are interested in applying for one of our docent positions please fill out the FTVRR Job Application and send it in for consideration!

Please read carefully before applying:
